Wine for all reasons

Most of us might consider a tipple or two as we face what Santa may or may not bring us, but with a range so vast, it is difficult to know where to start. To guide you on your first steps, we thought we might like to start you off at home, with a brief look at some interesting facts about wine in Spain.

When we talk about large volumes of wine, or any liquid really, we talk in terms of “hl”, a metric capacity unit, equal to equal to 100 litres.

Spain produces 11,590,455 hl of wine overall, which can be broken down into 6,347,866 hl of red and 1,582,689 hl white, the rest being mad up of rosé, cava and liqueur.

Recent trends has seen a growth for South American and Australian wines, but the Spanish export market is still a force to be reckoned with, even before we look at the domestic market.

From some of the most famous wine producing regions in the country, to the independent vineyards and bodegas, Spanish wine is still considered to be of the best in the world, so go out and try some today, if you haven´t already.

We will look at the regions and flavours of Spain in future articles, but if wine is something that interests you, perhaps you would like to give us your opinion, either on a particular wine, brand or region. Just drop us an email at office@theleader.info with your details, and we will try to feature your comments and articles too.
