An Indian delegation, composed by 12 Indian professionals visited Spain to meet Spanish professionals from food and beverage sector in Madrid and Barcelona.
The Indian delegation, with a very high professional profile, was composed by the renowned Chef Saby (Olive Bar & Kitchen Restaurant), two buyers of Indian retail chains (HiperCITY and SPAR), and 9 importers / distributors of food and wine (Tree of Life, Lifestyle Areva, Jurberfam Mittal, among others).

During the time they spent in Spain each importer had at least 15 meetings with different companies. These companies represent more than 100 Spanish companies from Food and Beverage sector. The Indian delegation also visited famous factories in Spain. "These initiatives are necessary since the traditional average to contact a potential supplier and establish a business relationship with him is 9 months. Through this way, the relationship is more direct and this period could be reduced by half, "said Virendra Mittal, chairman of India Pvt Ltd Mittal Juberfam during his stay in Madrid. According to Mittal, the Asian importer, it is likely that these meetings will close a trade agreement with a Spanish company in the Asturias. "Through meetings with Spanish producers, Mittal Juberfam will meet its Spanish product portfolio targets for 2012, ”

The sector of Indian food and beverages is valued in 134,000 million Euros, with annual growth of 14% and a target audience of 400 million people. The market for imported food products in India is close to 50 million Euros. Now our days,the Spanish industry of food and beverages exports to India 13 food categories, being olives and olive oil, the most successful.

It is clear from various previous studies, that Indian society is developing into a growing urban middle class which is changing the traditional consumption habits of the country, thus promoting the penetration of Spanish products.

The Spanish food industry bets for the Indian market and the emerging countries. A clear example is the signing of “Plan Indian 2010-2012” This is an ambitious Plan for the Promotion of Food and Wines from Spain in India, involving ICEX, MARM, FIAB and regional promotion agencies of 11 autonomous regions.

Primarily directed to position the Spanish food sector in India, some of the objectives are to double in three years the total of Spanish exports to India in the agro sector and expanded to 100 the number of food and beverage companies exporting to this country (currently about 62), among others.
